Cardano Market Cap Soars 42% as Whale Activity Peaks
Cardano's market capitalization has surged by 42% since September 16, with its native token ADA climbing from approximately $0.19 to $0.27. This rally has attracted significant attention from large holders, as on-chain data reveals 413 transactions exceeding $100,000 in a single day, the highest level since June 4. Social dominance for ADA also spiked to 1.16%, the highest reading of 2026, driven by retail interest and recent project launches.
Santiment Intelligence reported that the surge in whale activity and social interest coincided with ADA's price increase. The firm noted that new project launches, such as RealFi on the Cardano mainnet on October 1, and upcoming integrations like Leios and Fireblocks support, contributed to the heightened discussion around the network. These developments likely fueled the recent attention and trading activity.
Contrary to some claims that the ADA rally was a short squeeze, Santiment's data showed that open interest in ADA futures rose by about 25% to $304 million over two days, marking the highest daily close since at least April. This suggests new positioning rather than short covering, as funding data also turned positive after reaching its most negative level in the past month on October 2.
Analyst Giannis Andreou provided a technical perspective, noting that ADA is testing the historical $0.20 to $0.28 band after bouncing from a potential local base. He emphasized that reclaiming and holding the $0.32 to $0.40 range would strengthen the recovery case, with key levels to watch being $0.426 and the $0.55 to $0.65 supply zone. On the downside, a weekly close below $0.20 could bring $0.14 to $0.18 back into focus.
