Cardano Marks Ninth Anniversary with History Lesson on Token Naming

Cardano is celebrating its ninth anniversary since its genesis block was launched on September 23, 2017. The Cardano Foundation marked this occasion by sharing a brief history behind the naming of ADA, one of the blockchain's most recognizable tokens.

The foundation revealed that ADA is named after Ada Lovelace (1815-1852), a mathematician widely credited with writing the first computer program. This remains a fitting name for a blockchain that puts math first, as Cardano's blockchain is built fundamentally on peer-reviewed academic research, formal mathematical verification, and rigorous scientific methodology.

The foundation also shared that the Cardano blockchain itself is named after Gerolamo Cardano, an Italian polymath from the Renaissance era. This reflects an emphasis on mathematical rigour in the development of the platform.
