Cardano Marks Six-Year Anniversary of Shelley Upgrade
Cardano is marking six years since its Shelley upgrade, which transformed the network by introducing staking and decentralized block production. This milestone marked a significant shift from its initial federated network to a more decentralized system.
The Shelley era replaced the Byron era and enabled Cardano's community to operate stake pools, paving the way for full decentralization by early 2021. Today, Cardano supports 2,882 stake pools with over 21 billion ADA staked.
Looking ahead, Cardano is gearing up for its largest scaling upgrade, Ouroboros Leios, which is expected to boost throughput by 5 to 20 times. A mainnet hard fork is planned for later in 2026.
