Nasdaq Listee Ionic Digital Surges 25% on Debut Amid Record-Breaking $2B Pre-Committed Orders
A company that transformed from Bitcoin mining sites has made its debut on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol 'IOND'. Ionic Digital's share price surged 25% on its first trading day, pushing its market capitalization to approximately $2.4 billion.
The company closed a $400 million private financing round co-led by Attestor, Oaktree Capital, and Sachem Head just weeks prior, with Citadel participating as a follow-on investor. Ionic Digital's business model is straightforward: it converts low-cost electricity and land in Texas into AI data centers, which are then fully leased to cloud vendors and AI enterprises.
The company has secured $2 billion worth of pre-committed orders before its data centers were even completed. CEO Matt Prusak made a frank remark on the listing day: 'The market is rewarding us for repurposing Bitcoin mining facilities into AI data centers.'
