Cardano Nears Crucial Breakout After Nine Years of Price Compression
Market analyst Eric Van Tassel believes Cardano (ADA) is nearing a significant breakout after nine years of price compression. The cryptocurrency has been in a long-term structure characterized by rising support and descending resistance trendlines, which are converging at the current price point of $0.2516.
Van Tassel identified four key phases within this structure: a major price expansion from 2018-2021, followed by a multi-year compression phase from 2021-2026. In 2025, ADA attempted to break above the descending resistance but failed, leading to another breakout attempt in 2026.
Currently, Cardano is testing the upper trendline, and Van Tassel notes that a sustained weekly close above the descending resistance would provide stronger confirmation of a breakout. The analyst also points out that similar multi-year structures are present across several other cryptocurrencies, indicating a potential broader expansion phase for altcoins.
Van Tassel rejects the notion that Cardano is a 'dead coin', citing increased trading volume and activity as ADA approaches its major macro resistance level. The continued growth of blockchain applications and decentralized finance may also contribute to the expansion of blockchain networks beyond Bitcoin's primary role as a store of value.
