Cardano, Petrobras Unveil Blockchain Apps for Sustainable Aviation Fuel in Brazil

Cardano Foundation and Petrobras have strengthened their partnership, focusing on blockchain applications for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable Diesel R in Brazil. The collaboration began with a corporate education program, Cardano Academy's blockchain initiative for Petrobras' employees, which resulted in 500 participants receiving evolving NFTs as credentials.

The partnership has since developed two new applications: one tokenizes the SAF supply chain to create verifiable records of fuel origin and movement, while the other is a decentralized app rewarding airline passengers who fly on SAF-powered routes. Petrobras aims to meet 100% of Brazil's domestic SAF demand through co-processing by 2027-2029.

The partnership also developed a Proof of Atenas system, an attendance and training verification tool using NFC cards and 3D-printed physical totems. This is Cardano Foundation's first governmental partnership in Latin America, with Petrobras being majority state-owned.
