Cardano Price Surges as NIGHT Token and DEX Volume Rise
Cardano's native cryptocurrency, ADA, has been on a strong rally, reaching its highest point since May 15 at $0.2663. This represents a 96% increase from its lowest level this year. The price is approaching a golden cross pattern, which typically signals further upward movement as the 50-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) nears the 200-day moving average. While the pattern has not yet formed, the narrowing gap between the two lines suggests potential gains ahead.
ADA's upward trend began after hitting a low of $0.1388 in June, forming an ascending channel with higher highs and lows. The price is now near the upper boundary of this channel, which could lead to either a continuation of the rally or a reversal. Technical indicators like the Supertrend and Ichimoku cloud support the bullish outlook, with the former remaining green and the latter showing ADA above the cloud. A breakout above the channel could push ADA toward $0.300, with $0.50 being a key resistance level if that barrier is breached. Conversely, a drop below $0.2400 would invalidate the bullish scenario.
One of the key drivers behind ADA's surge is the performance of the NIGHT token, which is part of the Midnight protocol. NIGHT hit a resistance level of $0.05300 on Saturday, its highest point since March 28, after bottoming at $0.01500 in July. Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, has expressed optimism about Midnight, suggesting it could surpass Zcash due to its broader applications in privacy, artificial intelligence, and decentralized finance. The protocol is also focusing on attracting more developers by allowing them to deploy smart contracts on its network.
Cardano's decentralized exchange (DEX) volume has also seen significant growth, with transactions worth over $348 million in the last quarter, the highest since the fourth quarter of 2023. Additionally, the amount of stablecoins in circulation on the network has reached a record high of over $67 million, up from $19 million in March. However, not all metrics are positive, as chain fees dropped to $129,000 last quarter from $164,000, and the total value locked (TVL) in the network has been declining this month.
