Cardano RealFi Launch Brings Real-World Credit On-Chain
Cardano's RealFi has launched on its network, bringing real-world credit exposure to the blockchain ecosystem. On October 1, USDrf and yield-bearing sUSDrf were made available on Cardano, marking a significant milestone in the development of lending in emerging markets.
The launch is part of Charles Hoskinson's efforts to connect blockchain finance with underserved borrowers. Speaking at the United Nations, Hoskinson compared blockchain technology to earlier exponential technologies like nuclear energy, the internet, and artificial intelligence. He noted that these technologies can progress slowly before their impact accelerates, citing the rapid growth of renewable energy in Germany as an example.
Hoskinson also highlighted his investment of several million dollars in RealFi, which has already serviced loans in Kenya and Uganda. The platform aims to generate returns from lending outside crypto markets rather than relying on token incentives. By separating retail access from institutional minting and redemption, the system gives different participants distinct entry and exit points.
