Cardano Surges 10% as RealFi Launch Fuels Rally
Cardano's native token, ADA, surged nearly 10% to reach a three-month high on Monday, trading above $0.27 while the broader cryptocurrency market remained flat. The rally, driven by the activation of the RealFi platform on Cardano's mainnet, pushed ADA to levels last seen in May. Trading data showed ADA hitting $0.273, a roughly 10% gain over the previous 24 hours, making it the top performer among major cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin and Ethereum saw modest gains, while XRP remained above $1.520.
The price movement coincided with RealFi going live on Cardano's mainnet on October 3. The platform offers a dollar-pegged stablecoin backed by assets like Treasuries and private credit, advertising yields of up to 9% annually. Charles Hoskinson, Cardano's founder, has invested several million dollars in the project and has been a vocal supporter. RealFi operates with two tokens: USDrf, a reserve-backed digital dollar, and sUSDrf, the staked efficiency layer that provides yield exposure to real-world assets.
Despite the price surge, on-chain activity showed a decline. Decentralized exchange volume on Cardano dropped from $11.74 million on October 1 to $5.72 million by October 5. However, the total value locked across Cardano-based DeFi applications rose 8.72% over 24 hours to $70.78 million. The divergence between price action and network usage suggests the rally was driven primarily by speculation rather than new blockchain activity.
Technical indicators showed a positive trend, with ADA's 50-day simple moving average crossing above its 200-day average in early October. The Relative Strength Index read between 69 and 73, near overbought levels. Traders are monitoring key support and resistance levels, with potential targets at $0.30 and $0.3916. The broader market backdrop, including a strengthening U.S. Dollar Index, presents a potential headwind for cryptocurrency prices.
