Cardano Teams Up with Petrobras to Track Cleaner Jet Fuel and Diesel
Petrobras, Brazil's state-controlled energy company, is working with the Cardano blockchain to track cleaner jet fuel and diesel. The partnership was announced by the Cardano Foundation on September 30th.
The research projects focus on sustainable aviation fuel and Petrobras' renewable diesel, made partly from vegetable oils and animal fats. One project centers around a platform called CS-SAF, built with PUC-Rio University's Ledger Labs, which converts each sustainable aviation fuel attribute into a standardized token on Cardano.
The tokens can be minted, transferred, consulted, and retired to prevent double-counting of green fuel claims. This is particularly important in the book-and-claim model used for sustainable aviation fuel, where an airline can pay for environmental benefits even when the physical fuel is burned elsewhere.
