Cardano Unveils 'Chang Hard Fork' Upgrade with On-Chain Governance Features
Cardano is gearing up for its biggest upgrade in two years, dubbed the 'Chang hard fork', which will reshape the network's structure and introduce on-chain governance features.
The upgrade, part of Cardano's Voltaire Era, aims to create a self-sustaining system with no training wheels needed. It will allow ADA token holders to elect representatives who will vote on proposals and technical changes, marking the first step towards a community-run governance structure.
Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, has pushed back the upgrade from this week to September 1, citing that some exchanges needed more prep time. The delay has sparked discussion in crypto circles, with Hoskinson noting that it's not uncommon for people to suddenly take upgrades seriously when deadlines are looming.
The hard fork will invalidate older versions of the network and is a significant change for users and developers. Critics have argued that Cardano is too academic and has lost ground to faster-moving competitors, but the project is betting big on this upgrade to silence the naysayers.
