Cardano’s ADA Rallies as Open Interest Hits $304 Million
Cardano's ADA token surged approximately 11% to $0.270 between October 3 and October 5, while open interest in ADA futures spiked 25% to $304 million. Analysts from Santiment challenged the notion that this rally was purely a short squeeze, highlighting that new positions and leverage also entered the market during this period. The data showed that open interest in ADA coins increased by about 13%, indicating fresh market activity rather than just short covering.
Santiment's analysis revealed that funding rates for ADA futures hit their most negative level in a month on October 2 before turning positive as the price rose. This suggests that some traders who bet against ADA were forced to close their positions, contributing to the price increase. However, the significant rise in open interest points to additional market participation beyond short covering.
Whale activity also surged during the rally, with 413 transactions worth at least $100,000 recorded on October 5. This was about 2.2 times the usual weekday average, indicating increased activity among large holders. Despite this, social volume remained relatively low, suggesting that public discussion did not match the level of trading activity.
Analysts remain bullish on ADA's prospects, with Giannis Andreou identifying the $0.23, $0.27 range as a key support zone. He suggested that reclaiming the $0.30, $0.40 area could strengthen the token's bullish setup, potentially leading to longer-term targets near $3.10. Other analysts, such as Dan Gambardello and Lucky Luciano, also expressed optimism about ADA's potential for further gains.
