Cardano's DeFi Drought Eases as Stablecoins Flow into USDrf
Cardano's DeFi landscape has shrunk significantly over the past year. According to data from DeFiLlama, Cardano's total value locked (TVL) is down more than 50% from $150 million in May to around $67 million currently.
However, this decline has been offset by a surge in stablecoin adoption on the platform. The dollar-linked tokens on Cardano are approaching an all-time high near $70 million, leaving the network with almost as much stablecoin liquidity as capital locked across its DeFi applications.
RealFi, a project led by Charles Hoskinson, has launched a new dollar-token system called USDrf and its yield-bearing counterpart, sUSDrf. The launch aims to provide users with an opportunity to earn returns from lending outside of crypto markets rather than primarily through token incentives.
The platform allows eligible retail users to acquire USDrf and stake it for sUSDrf, which offers variable returns generated from the underlying portfolio. However, institutional entities can mint USDrf directly and request redemption at a nominal value of $1 per token or its equivalent in eligible assets, less applicable fees.
