Cardano's Price Surge Raises Questions About Durability

Cardano's price surged 20% over seven days to $0.212 on Aug. 27, as crypto sentiment remained strong after Bitcoin reached $80,000.

However, network activity paints a different picture. DeFiLlama data showed Cardano's total value locked (TVL) falling from 509 million ADA on Jan. 1 to 272 million ADA, a decline of 237 million tokens.

The drop in TVL is accompanied by declining DEX volume and derivatives activity. DEX volume plummeted 98% from $56 million on Aug. 22 to $965,000 in five days, while open interest fell from $582.14M to $485.32M after $18 million in liquidations through Aug. 27.

Austin Campbell, founder of Zero Knowledge, was not convinced by the move, calling it an 'easy fade' due to weak fundamentals.
