Cardano's Struggling to Reclaim Former Glory
Cardano (ADA) investors are starting to get worried as the cryptocurrency continues to underperform its peers. Despite other cryptocurrencies showing signs of recovery in 2026, Cardano is down a whopping 27% for the year, even worse than Dogecoin's 20% decline.
In comparison, Solana is down 5%, Ethereum is down 8%, and Avalanche is down 9%. Cardano's market cap has plummeted to $9 billion, a far cry from its peak of $66 billion just five years ago. The cryptocurrency currently trades for less than $0.25.
The new catalyst for Cardano is supposed to be artificial intelligence (AI), with the thinking being that it will become a blockchain payment network for AI agents. However, Ethereum and Solana are making greater progress in this area, and AI-centric blockchains such as Bittensor are springing up.
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has even warned of 'a wave of failures' across the Cardano blockchain ecosystem. With spot ETFs failing to materialize for Cardano, investors are losing interest. The article concludes that until Cardano can gain momentum in DeFi, it's best to avoid it.
By 2030, Cardano will likely no longer rank among the top 25 cryptocurrencies in the world. This is a shame, as just five years ago, Cardano looked like a world-beater.
