Cardano's x402 Move May Not Spark Growth
Cardano has joined the x402 ecosystem, a payment standard created by Coinbase, which enables software agents to make payments without needing a credit card or account. This development is seen as a fresh narrative for the coin, which has declined 71% over the last 12 months.
However, joining the x402 ecosystem has not yet proven to have any upside for Cardano investors. The coin's own agent network, Masumi, has only recorded 38,777 transactions, compared to tens of millions on Solana and Base chain.
Even if Cardano were to capture a significant share of x402 payments, it's unlikely to have a significant impact on its market value. The coin's market value is $9.2 billion, and the total value of x402 payments is $41.8 million.
The Motley Fool's Stock Advisor analyst team has identified the 10 best stocks for investors to buy now, and Cardano is not one of them. The team has had a 936% average return, compared to 211% for the S&P 500.
