Cathie Wood Predicts Bitcoin Will Surpass Gold in Long-Term Value
Cathie Wood, CEO of ARK Invest, believes Bitcoin is gaining ground against gold, despite the latter’s traditional reputation as a safe-haven asset. In a recent podcast, Wood noted that Bitcoin has outperformed gold since August, calling it a significant shift. She also reiterated her bold prediction that Bitcoin could reach $1.5 million by 2030, a massive jump from its current price of around $86,000.
Wood’s confidence in Bitcoin stems from her early investment in the cryptocurrency. She disclosed buying $100,000 worth of Bitcoin at around $250 per coin, which would now be worth over $34.4 million, a return of 34,300%. She sees institutional adoption and artificial intelligence (AI) as key catalysts for Bitcoin’s future growth, suggesting AI agents could use the digital asset for online transactions.
Meanwhile, gold has corrected sharply after a strong rally earlier this year, bolstering Wood’s bullish stance. However, not all Wall Street experts share her enthusiasm. Legendary investor Warren Buffett has long criticized Bitcoin, calling it “probably rat poison squared” in 2018 and predicting a bad ending for cryptocurrencies.
Despite Buffett’s skepticism, Bitcoin has surged over 750% since his 2018 remarks, highlighting the stark contrast in opinions between the two investors. Wood’s optimism reflects a growing belief in Bitcoin’s long-term potential, while Buffett’s caution underscores the risks associated with the volatile asset.
