Celestia Fibre Shatters Throughput Benchmark with 3.07 Terabits per Second
Celestia's Fibre data-availability system has achieved a groundbreaking benchmark result. In an end-to-end test across 120 validators, Fibre sustained an astonishing 3.07 terabits per second of throughput.
The test covered all aspects of the pipeline, including encoding, distribution, storage, validator signatures, and onchain commitment submission. This is not to be confused with live user traffic on Celestia's mainnet, but rather a deliberate benchmark designed to push Fibre to its limits.
Celestia emphasizes that this figure represents an experimental result, and the network was not handling real payments per second from users during this test. However, under their benchmark assumptions, the measured throughput would be enough to support nearly two billion transactions per second.
This achievement highlights the growing importance of data availability in blockchain architecture. As blockchains split execution from settlement and data availability, the bottleneck shifts. Rollups can execute transactions quickly, but they still need a way to publish sufficient data for users and validators to verify the resulting state.
