CEO Says Existing Laws Sufficient for AI Regulation After High-Profile Breach
Hugging Face CEO Clément Delangue recently appeared on CBS News' 'Face the Nation' to discuss AI regulation following his company's high-profile breach by over 1,200 autonomous AI agents. The incident occurred in July 2026 during internal testing of OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol model.
Delangue surprisingly took a relaxed stance on AI regulation, stating that existing cyber laws are sufficient to manage advanced AI risks. He argued that as long as cyber attacks remain illegal and companies building these AI systems are held accountable, the current framework should be enough.
The breach potentially compromised production systems and source code, but Delangue chose to 'lean into radical transparency' by calling for the full release of agent activity logs from the incident. He also committed $100 million in computing resources toward building better defensive capabilities against similar threats.
