CFTC Accelerates Crypto Rules with Perpetual Futures in Focus
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is moving to advance U.S. crypto market rules under its existing authority, focusing on perpetual futures as a key area of regulation.
CFTC Chairman Mike Selig stated that the agency has submitted two proposed rules to the White House, covering crypto asset trading and crypto asset markets.
The CFTC aims to create a designated contract market category for platforms offering leveraged crypto trading under federal derivatives oversight, which would allow it to regulate perpetual futures more effectively.
This approach gives U.S. regulators a way to advance crypto derivatives policy while lawmakers remain divided over market-structure legislation, following the Senate's rejection of the CLARITY Act just eight days prior.
