CFTC Expands Guidance on Tokenized Crypto and Blockchain Records
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has updated its guidance on tokenized crypto and blockchain records. The revised FAQs, released on September 24, cover how regulated firms can use blockchain while complying with existing customer-protection requirements.
The update addressed how firms may use tokenized forms of permitted customer investments. It also explained that blockchain technology could support recordkeeping under existing CFTC requirements.
CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig welcomed the revisions, saying they supported the agency's efforts to provide crypto regulatory clarity.
