CFTC Issues Revised Guidance Amid Stalled Crypto Legislation
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has released revised guidance for registered cryptocurrency firms regarding tokenized assets and blockchain-based record management.
Approved entities can now invest client funds in tokenized asset versions, provided the tokenized alternative confers identical legal and economic entitlements as the conventional form of that instrument.
The CFTC's modification follows the US Senate's inability to move forward with the CLARITY Act, legislation designed to establish crypto market structure.
Federal agencies are proceeding with cryptocurrency regulations leveraging their current statutory powers, as Congressional legislative action is expected to stall until 2027 at the earliest.
