CFTC Moves Ahead with Digital Asset Rules Amid CLARITY Act Uncertainty
The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is planning to advance digital asset rules without waiting for Congress to pass the CLARITY Act. According to Chairman Michael Selig, the agency already has proposals ready for consideration.
The CFTC supports a single federal framework instead of separate crypto rules across all 50 states. Selig said that this approach would reduce costs and provide market certainty for digital asset activity.
The CLARITY Act passed the House in 2025 but still faces uncertainty in the Senate. The agency is working through Project Crypto with the Securities and Exchange Commission to clarify how specific digital assets should be regulated.
