CFTC Proposes New Framework for Crypto Asset Markets
The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has released a proposed rulemaking to create a comprehensive regulatory framework for crypto asset transactions and markets. The new rules aim to establish fit-for-purpose regulations for retail commodity transactions involving crypto assets.
CFTC Chair Rostin Behnam emphasized the significance of this step, stating, “Today’s action is a critical step in the CFTC’s ongoing efforts to ensure America remains the crypto capital of the world.” He added that the American people deserve clarity, certainty, and consumer protections in the crypto asset markets.
The proposal seeks to integrate crypto asset transactions into the CFTC’s uniform national market regulatory framework. The agency is committed to delivering these protections by adapting its existing regulatory structure to the evolving crypto landscape.
