CFTC Pushes for Clearer Rules on Leveraged Crypto Trading
CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig has proposed a federal framework for crypto exchanges offering leveraged trading to retail customers. Announced on October 5 during the Fordham Law Blockchain Regulatory Symposium in New York, the proposal aims to create a clearer path to federal oversight for U.S. crypto platforms.
The CFTC is seeking public input on two key regulations: Regulation Crypto Asset Transactions (CTX) and Regulation Crypto Asset Markets (CAM). This initiative comes amid the absence of a comprehensive U.S. crypto market law, which could significantly impact exchange compliance, oversight of centralized and decentralized exchanges, and the availability of leveraged products.
The new framework could reshape how crypto exchanges operate in the U.S., potentially leading to stricter compliance measures and more structured oversight. The CFTC's move is part of a broader effort to bring clarity to the regulatory landscape for digital assets.
