CFTC Sends Crypto Market Rulemaking to White House for Review
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has sent a new regulatory action to the White House for review, marking an early step toward potentially broader federal rules governing digital-asset transactions and markets.
The CFTC's 'prerule' designation indicates that the agency has not yet submitted a formal proposed rule for public comment. The Reginfo filing lists no legal deadline and identifies the action as subject to the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
The timing comes just two days after the U.S. Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act in a 49-50 cloture vote. CFTC Chairman Michael Selig said the agency would continue working on crypto regulation using its existing statutory authority, and the latest action provides the first visible regulatory step since that statement.
