CFTC Stymied by Congressional Inaction on Crypto Legislation
A White House crypto aide has emphasized that Congress' failure to pass the Clarity Act leaves the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) without authority over spot crypto markets.
This limitation could potentially hinder the agency's plans to establish a digital asset framework in the absence of legislation regulating crypto market structure, according to the aide.
The aide specifically noted that Congress' inability to pass the Clarity Act leaves the CFTC without the necessary authority to oversee spot crypto markets, which are currently operating outside of regulatory boundaries.
