CFTC Unveils Roadmap for Crypto and AI Regulation
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) held its inaugural meeting of the Innovation Advisory Committee on August 20, bringing together industry representatives from crypto, traditional financial markets, and technology to discuss crypto assets, AI, and prediction markets.
CFTC Chairman Michael Selig outlined a 'roadmap for the new frontier of finance,' which includes potential rules that would enable current registrants and unregistered crypto exchanges to operate as designated contract markets (DCMs) offering crypto asset trading with leverage under CFTC oversight.
The roadmap also includes exploring pathways for developers of on-chain finance protocols to offer their products in a compliant manner in the United States, following President Donald Trump's mention that the CFTC is working to bring Hyperliquid into the US.
