Chainalysis AI Cuts Bitget Bridge Reconciliation Time from 20 Hours to Under 10 Minutes
Chainalysis' custom AI automation significantly reduced the time required for bridge reconciliation after the September 24 breach of Bitget, an exchange heavily linked to North Korean actors. The investigation found that $387.5 million was affected by the exploit, with some assets transferred within the first three hours. Initial estimates put the figure at around $351.6 million but were revised upwards once assets on Zcash and TRON were included.
The breach saw funds leave Bitget in 23 transfers, reaching four networks: Ethereum (49.7%), XRP (40.8%), Zcash (7.6%), and Tron (1.8%). Chainalysis' AI successfully traced tens of millions of dollars in XRP through a cross-chain liquidity protocol and converted it to Bitcoin over roughly a day and a half.
The investigation attributed the attack to North Korean actors, pushing crypto attributed to these actors above $1 billion in 2026. The stolen funds remain under monitoring, with no recovery amount confirmed.
