Chainalysis AI Speeds Up $387M Bitget Hack Investigation
Chainalysis, a blockchain analytics firm, used its in-house artificial intelligence to cut the time it takes to investigate a $387 million hack from crypto exchange Bitget from over 20 hours to under 10 minutes.
The hack occurred on September 24, when Bitget detected unauthorized transfers of $351.6 million from its hot and warm wallet infrastructure. The exchange later revised its estimated losses to $387.5 million after accounting for further Zcash and Tron transfers.
Chainalysis investigators built custom automation specifically for the case, which helped connect fragmented transaction trails that would otherwise look unrelated on separate networks.
The firm linked the theft to North Korean actors, whose cumulative 2026 crypto thefts now top $1 billion. Chainalysis tracked 23 separate transfers that drained the funds from Bitget, with 49.7% going to Ethereum, 40.8% to XRP, 7.6% to Zcash, and 1.8% to Tron.
