Chainlink Broadcasts US Economic Data onto Ten Public Blockchains
The US Department of Commerce has partnered with Chainlink to broadcast economic data onto ten public blockchains. The move aims to provide developers and smart contracts with a live, verifiable feed of information that was previously only available in government press releases and PDF reports.
The Bureau of Economic Analysis will continue to be the original source of the data, but Chainlink's oracle network will carry its figures onto the blockchains. This is not the first time the Commerce Department has put economic data on a blockchain; last August, it worked with Pyth Network to publish GDP data across nine networks.
The new Chainlink feeds deliver actual, continuously updated values that smart contracts can reference in transactions. The data includes real GDP figures, the PCE Price Index, and Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers, all sourced from the BEA. Data refreshes occur monthly or quarterly, aligning with the BEA's publication schedule.
