Chainlink CCIP 2.0 Exposes Bridge Risk and Issuer Control
Chainlink's latest update to its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) introduces new features that expose the risk of bridge failures and give issuers greater control over cross-chain delivery conditions.
The update, known as CCIP 2.0, allows token issuers to require an additional verifier before tokens can be transferred from one blockchain to another. This extra check can cause stalls in the transfer process if the required attestation is not provided in time.
According to Chainlink, the new feature adds optional Cross-Chain Verifiers (CCVs) alongside the default Committee Verifier. An issuer or third party can operate a CCV and make its approval a condition of delivery, giving them greater control over the transfer process.
The update also introduces faster-than-finality transfers, which can expose transfers to duplicate destination execution after a deep enough reorganization. However, Chainlink notes that this speed choice does not change the need for required attestations.
