Chainlink Overhauls Cross-Chain Security with CCIP 2.0 Upgrade
Chainlink has upgraded its cross-chain infrastructure to CCIP 2.0, which allows institutions to customize security checks for transfers between blockchains. The upgrade includes customizable Cross-Chain Verifiers (CCVs) that can be used in addition to Chainlink's default verifier network.
The new version of CCIP adds compliance options such as Know Your Customer (KYC), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and sanctions screening, alongside configurable transaction speed. This allows applications to prioritize near-instant transfers or wait for stronger finality and custom approvals.
Chainlink says the upgrade is a response to recent security incidents, including the $292 million Kelp DAO exploit in April. The incident demonstrated how a weak verification setup can undermine an otherwise functional cross-chain system.
