Chainlink Reports $15 Billion Migration to CCIP Amid Security Shift
Chainlink has announced that over $15 billion in value is in the process of migrating to its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). The migration, driven by security concerns, began months before the launch of CCIP 2.0 on September 28, 2026. Key players like BitGo, Coinbase, and Kraken are moving assets such as WBTC, cbBTC, and kBTC to CCIP, citing enhanced security and institutional controls.
The $15 billion figure has been referenced by Chainlink since at least August 2026, with the initial migration of $7.7 billion in WBTC by BitGo. However, Chainlink clarifies that this figure represents value in the process of migrating, not value that has already been settled on CCIP 2.0. The new protocol version introduces features like Cross-Chain Verifiers, configurable confirmations, and compliance integrations, but adoption of these features is not yet reflected in the migration numbers.
As of October 2026, Chainlink's total cross-chain token value stands at $84 billion, while CCIP's Total Value Locked (TVL) is approximately $1.91 billion, according to DeFiLlama. These figures measure different aspects of the ecosystem and should not be combined. Additionally, LINK ETF inflows recorded $8.30 million in the week ending October 2, 2026, but these flows are unrelated to CCIP adoption.
The bottom line is that the $15 billion migration figure predates CCIP 2.0 and reflects a broader industry shift towards more secure cross-chain solutions. While CCIP 2.0 offers new institutional controls, the actual adoption of these features remains to be seen in the data.
