Chainlink Unveils CCIP 2.0 with Custom Security Checks for Cross-Chain Transfers

Chainlink has launched CCIP 2.0, an upgraded version of its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) that allows companies to add custom security checks for cross-chain transfers.

The upgrade follows the $292 million Kelp DAO hack in April, which was attributed to a LayerZero bridge setup relying on a single verifier.

With CCIP 2.0, companies can choose additional verifiers, either running their own or hiring outside providers like Infosys and Nethermind, which will sit on top of Chainlink's default network of 16 independent node operators.

The upgrade introduces user attestations through Cross-Chain Verifiers (CCVs), where a CCV independently verifies and cryptographically signs transactions before they can be executed on the destination chain.
