Chainlink Upgrades Crypto Bridge Tech with New Security Checks
Chainlink has released CCIP 2.0, an upgrade to its crypto bridge technology that allows applications to add independent verifiers for security checks on token and message transfers between blockchains.
The upgrade comes five months after a $292 million exploit in April using the LayerZero bridge's single-verifier setup, which attackers allegedly linked to North Korea's Lazarus Group tricked.
CCIP 2.0 lets applications use Chainlink's default network of 16 independent node operators and add other verifiers on top of that network, either by running them themselves or hiring outside providers like Infosys and Nethermind.
The upgrade does not make CCIP automatically more secure; its protection depends on which verifiers an application uses and how those systems are governed. Existing applications can use CCIP 2.0 without changing their integrations, but the stronger checks only matter if the application using the bridge chooses to add them.
