Chattogram Police Officer and Sub-Inspectors Withdrawn Over Extortion Allegations
A high-ranking officer and two sub-inspectors of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) have been withdrawn from their posts following allegations of extortion from a businessman.
The accused officers, including Assistant Commissioner Shariful Alam Sujon and Assistants Sub-Inspectors Bashir Uddin and Sufian, allegedly forced Tk 18 lakh in cash and cryptocurrency from the victim after detaining him on September 4.
The incident occurred when plainclothes police led by AC Shariful picked up businessman Akhtaruzzaman Shakil and his friend Mansur Ali from a house in Chattogram's Halishahar area, took them to the Law and Order Intelligence Cell office, and demanded money transfers and withdrawals.
The victims claimed their mobile phones were seized, personal data was transferred, and they were threatened with exposure of private images and implication in a gambling case.
