Cheating Turns Bitcoin Miners' ASICs Into Space Heaters: Ripple Ex-CTO
Ripple's former Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Arthur Britto, has spoken out about the inefficiency of Bitcoin mining equipment. He claims that cheating, which is a common practice in the industry, can turn ASICs (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits) into space heaters.
In an interview, Britto explained how some miners modify their ASICs to increase their chances of solving complex mathematical equations quickly. However, this modification comes at a cost: it significantly reduces the equipment's efficiency and lifespan.
Britto stated that 'miners who are cheating are essentially turning their ASICs into space heaters.'
The issue is not unique to Bitcoin, as other cryptocurrencies also face similar problems. Britto emphasized that the industry needs to adopt more sustainable practices and prioritize energy efficiency.
