Chee Sees China Regulating Crypto with Hong Kong as a Model
Solana Co. CEO Joseph Chee predicts that China will eventually allow more cryptocurrency activity under close regulation, according to an interview he gave on the sidelines of Korea Blockchain Week.
China has a history of being restrictive towards cryptocurrencies, with mainland authorities ordering domestic crypto exchanges to close and banning fundraising through new digital tokens in 2017. However, Hong Kong has developed a licensing framework for virtual-asset trading platforms, which could serve as a testing ground for China's regulatory approach.
Chee's comments have sparked interest among traders and investors, but experts caution that they should not be taken as a confirmation of future policy changes in mainland China. Until concrete rules are published by authorities, the possibility of a regulated Chinese crypto market remains speculative.
