China Debunks Cryptocurrency Anonymity: Virtual Currencies Are Not Secret
The National Security Bureau of China has refuted the notion that cryptocurrencies are anonymous. According to an article on their WeChat public account, virtual currencies have become a crucial tool for criminals to engage in illicit activities.
The risks associated with virtual currencies include money laundering, network attacks, and espionage. The article claims that the idea of anonymity is a 'false assumption' due to the transparent nature of blockchain technology.
The National Security Bureau asserts that the public can track transactions on the chain, making it difficult for individuals to conceal their identities. Even though wallet addresses can be anonymous, the article notes that device codes and network IP addresses are often left behind during fiat exchanges.
The bureau provides a three-part framework for tracing transactions: examining account records, tracking the chain, and analyzing private keys. According to them, as long as individuals manage their own private keys, they will have control over their funds and can avoid losses due to platform shutdowns or disconnections.
