China Seeks to Derail US AI Dominance Through Leftist Activism
The US is facing opposition to its AI infrastructure from the progressive Left and China. The Left's efforts are being fueled by anti-growth activists, amplified by foreign adversaries and media alarmism, and are hindering America's ability to maintain its AI dominance in the 'new AI Cold War with China.'
Neville Roy Singham, an American Marxist based in Shanghai, has funneled at least $275 million into leftist US nonprofits that advance China's strategic goals. His network is helping to amplify the anti-data center campaign and delay or block proposed AI-infrastructure investment worth billions.
A recent report by the Bitcoin Policy Institute found that Singham's network has been effective in delaying or blocking about $24 billion in proposed AI-infrastructure investment, with some campaigns even blaming rising electricity bills on data centers. Local groups fighting against data center construction are often tied to Singham's network, which includes organizations like Code Pink and The People's Forum.
The stakes are high for the US, as China stands to benefit from the opposition to AI progress. However, there is a growing recognition that AI will be essential in providing labor to drive the US economy forward due to a shrinking workforce.
