China-US Trade Talks Yield Breakthrough in AI Dialogue
China and the US have made progress in their trade talks, reaching consensus on several economic issues. The two countries discussed reciprocal tariff reductions, trade and investment mechanisms, and extending existing arrangements between them.
The discussions also covered a proposed framework for reducing tariffs on $30 billion worth of goods on each side. This framework aims to lower tariffs on selected products and support trade between the world's two largest economies.
Aside from trade talks, China and the US held their first dialogue on artificial intelligence under the bilateral economic and trade consultation framework. The AI dialogue is an important step in managing the relationship between the two countries, given their competition in advanced technology and concerns about AI governance and risks.
