China Warns Cryptocurrency Anonymity Is an Illusion

The Chinese government has taken a firm stance on cryptocurrencies, stating that complete anonymity for criminals using them is an illusion.

The Ministry of State Security (MSS) issued a statement addressing the role cryptocurrencies play in facilitating illicit acts and the state's ability to identify threat actors using them for illicit purposes.

Cryptocurrencies are often used for money laundering, online gambling, cross-border smuggling, and cybersecurity ransoms, allowing criminals to operate outside of law enforcement oversight.

The MSS emphasized that while decentralized technology makes tracking processes more challenging, blockchain technology guarantees that a record of transactions is being preserved.
