China's Emerging Role in the Iran Standoff Fuels Market Optimism Ahead of Trump-Xi Summit
Investors are eagerly awaiting the Trump-Xi Summit in Washington on September 24, which has become entangled with the Iran standoff. The meeting is now seen as a potential catalyst for a diplomatic breakthrough in the conflict. Saudi Arabia has asked China to intervene with Iran and rein in the Houthis, prompting Beijing to privately urge Tehran to use its influence.
Mark Pfeifle, a Republican strategist and former White House national security official, stated that 'Now, the Saudis have asked the Chinese to intervene with the Iranians and to hold back the Houthis. So, you're seeing for the first time, really, China involving themselves.'
Tehran has already conveyed its conditions for ending the war to Washington through Qatari mediators, which include ending all fronts of the war, unfreezing Iranian funds, and lifting the naval blockade.
Meanwhile, global markets are optimistic ahead of the summit. The S&P 500 futures rose 0.43%, while Nasdaq 100 futures gained 0.61%. Bitcoin added 1.29% to about $81,433.
