China's Generative AI User Base Surpasses 700 Million
China's user base for generative artificial intelligence (AI) has surpassed 700 million people, according to a report released at the '2026 (Seventh China Internet Basic Resources Conference)' held by the China Internet Network Information Center Policy and International Cooperation Department.
The report shows that as of June 2026, AI users have reached over 50% penetration in the country. The main application scenarios include intelligent question-answering, where 76.0% of users rely on it to answer questions, process images or videos, texts, work summaries, meeting minutes, and PPTs.
AI comprehensive assistants and AI efficiency office applications have seen a significant increase in usage, with growth exceeding 100%. Additionally, 38.7% of netizens have purchased smart hardware online within the past half year, with a buying ratio of 20.2% for smart wearables, 18.2% for smartphones, and 15.5% for tablets.
China's computing power has reached 2185 EFLOPS as of June 2026, marking a staggering 177% increase from the previous year. The country's first 10,000-core AI supercluster has also been put into use. Furthermore, several open-source models with parameters exceeding $1 billion have been released by DeepSearch, DarkSide of the Moon, and other companies.
