Cipher Digital Stock Plummets as Q2 Earnings Miss Expectations

Share

Cipher Digital's stock plummeted by almost 16% on Tuesday as its second-quarter earnings fell short of expectations.

The company, which has been pivoting towards artificial intelligence data center operations, reported revenue and net loss that were significantly lower than consensus analyst estimates.

Revenue declined to $24.8 million from nearly $43.6 million in the same quarter last year, while headline net loss deepened to almost $268 million from a shortfall of less than $46 million in the previous year.

The disappointing results were largely attributed to recent softness in crypto prices, but Cipher Digital's pivot towards AI data center operations showed some promise with the announcement that it had reached an agreement for a major client to begin receiving compute capacity at its Black Pearl data center earlier than expected.
