Circle Acquires Tazapay to Boost Cross-Border Payment Capabilities
Circle's proposed acquisition of Tazapay for $400 million in stock aims to address a critical issue in cross-border payments. Stablecoins like USDC can be transferred across blockchains in seconds, but they still fail as a payment if the recipient cannot receive usable local money.
Tazapay connects to more than 60 banking and fintech partners and supports payout rails across over 100 markets. This provides the necessary links for local licensing, banking access, currency conversion, and fiat delivery that an on-chain transfer alone cannot complete.
Circle's co-founder and CEO Jeremy Allaire said that combining USDC with Tazapay's banking relationships, local payout rails, and institutional customers would accelerate worldwide adoption of the stablecoin.
