Circle Bolsters Regulatory Framework with New York Trust Charter
Circle has secured a limited-purpose trust charter in New York from the Department of Financial Services, further solidifying its regulatory framework for USDC. This addition to the oversight structure comes after Circle obtained federal national trust approval earlier this month.
The dual approvals give the stablecoin issuer both state and federal regulatory footing as it builds out custody and issuance infrastructure for its dollar-pegged token.
Circle's co-founder, chairman, and CEO Jeremy Allaire stated that obtaining a New York trust charter has been a long-standing objective due to the regulatory clarity it provides. The NYDFS serves as an international standard setter for digital asset regulation.
The latest approvals strengthen Circle's compliance profile at a time when regulatory structure remains a key competitive factor in the digital asset and payments sectors. USDC is the second-largest dollar-pegged stablecoin across blockchains, behind Tether's USDT.
