Circle Drops Amid $400M Tazapay Acquisition for Emerging Markets
Circle Internet Group's stock price declined by 7.53% over the trading week, closing at $90.60 on Friday.
The company acquired Tazapay, a Singapore-based payments platform, for $400 million to expand its payment infrastructure in emerging markets.
The acquisition provides access to payment networks covering over 100 countries with established banking ties in Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.
Circle's SVP of Payments, Irfan Ganchi, noted that stablecoin settlement is becoming a crucial component of global commerce, but for USDC to be effective everywhere, it needs to connect to local money systems through banking relationships.
