Circle Expands Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol with Native EURC Support
Circle has expanded its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) to support native EURC transfers between Ethereum and Base, using a burn-and-mint model that issues new tokens rather than wrapped assets. This move makes EURC the second Circle-issued asset supported by CCTP, after USDC.
The addition of EURC to CCTP allows developers to handle two company-issued stablecoins through one integration, without requiring existing applications to replace their underlying transfer model. The expansion is seen as a way to improve DeFi cross-chain interoperability and euro stablecoin adoption.
Circle notes that the new feature is non-custodial and irreversible, with no trust assumptions required for transfers between chains. However, users are warned that transfers are final, even if funds are sent to an incorrect address.
